About the role
We're building a roster of genuine, everyday Linux Ubuntu 24.04 users to contribute real-world desktop interaction data and expert insight. This isn't a tutorial-writing gig or a QA testing role for someone learning the OS on the fly — we need professionals who already live in Ubuntu 24.04 as their daily driver and can demonstrate authentic, fluent usage of the GNOME desktop environment, system tools, and everyday workflows.
Your experience navigating Files, Settings, the terminal, application switching, and general desktop administration will directly inform how future tools, documentation, and AI systems understand and support real Linux users.
What you'll do
- Perform and narrate everyday desktop tasks in Ubuntu 24.04 exactly as you would in your normal workflow (file management, settings configuration, terminal usage, app switching, etc.)
- Demonstrate practical troubleshooting and configuration steps drawn from genuine day-to-day use, not scripted scenarios
- Provide clear, expert commentary on your reasoning and decision-making while using the GNOME desktop environment and core system utilities
- Complete structured tasks or sessions designed to capture authentic usage patterns and edge cases
- Flag friction points, inconsistencies, or usability quirks you encounter as a genuine power user
- Maintain consistency and reliability across multiple sessions if selected for ongoing work
Requirements
- You must currently use Linux Ubuntu 24.04 as your primary, day-to-day desktop operating system — not a VM, dual-boot novelty, or one-off install
- Strong working fluency with the GNOME desktop environment, Files, Settings, and terminal
- Comfortable narrating your screen and thought process clearly for recorded sessions
- Reliable remote setup with your own hardware and existing OS license — we do not provide software, virtual machines, or hardware
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills
- Availability for structured, scheduled sessions
**Nice to have:**
- Experience in QA, technical documentation, UX research, or developer advocacy
- Familiarity with common Linux administration and scripting tasks
- Prior experience contributing to AI training, annotation, or usability research projects
Compensation
This role pays **$60–$70 per hour**, commensurate with demonstrated expertise and session complexity. Engagements are remote, flexible, and open globally to qualified professionals.
